RISE&FALL contest for adrenaline seekers in Mayrhofen, 19th Dec 2015

An extraordinary contest takes place in Mayrhofen on 19th December. The 4th multi-sport RISE&FALL event is a meeting of extremes. 430 metres in altitude must be conquered while ski touring, paragliding, mountain biking and ski or snowboarding. Athletes and fans are already pretty fired up about RISE&FALL on 19th December, during which spectators can catch all the action live on giant video walls at the festival grounds.

Party weekend in Mayrhofen to celebrate new Penkenbahn, 18-20 Dec '15

The new Penkenbahn opens this season with a weekend of celebrations to accompany its inauguration on Saturday 19th December. The program for this day is still secret but we do know that top acts and international DJs will be performing at some of Mayrhofen’s hottest clubs during the weekend until the early hours!

Grandvalira, Andorra to host the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Feb 2016

Grandvalira will become the centre of the alpine skiing world on February 27 and 28 2016. For the second time, FIS (International Ski Federation) has entrusted the Andorran ski resort with hosting one of the World Cup circuits (the resort first welcomed the event back in 2012).

Mayrhofen, Austria receives new state-of-the-art gondola for 2015/16

The new and improved state-of-the-art 3S Gondola will be ready for the 2015/16 season on Action Mountain Penken and will provide passengers with a quick, comfortable and quiet ride, plenty of room and fantastic views of the Zillertal Alps surrounding Mayrhofen. Each of the 33 WI-Fi-enabled gondolas will have seats for 24 passengers and will be able to transport a maximum of 2,880 passengers per hour up to the ski resort. During the evening peak hours, there will be room for an additional 8 standees, resulting in a downhill capacity of 3,840 passsengers per hour. As a result, waiting times will no longer be an issue.

New black run opens Dec 2015 in the Zillertal Valley, Austria.

Photo: MayrhofenA new downhill valley run will open December 2015 in the Zillertal Valley of Austria. Starting from the middle station at the Wiesenalm, the new ski run is 2.2km long and, with a gradient of around 50%, it offers quite a challenge (black piste). A special treat for all serious winter sport enthusiasts – in future you can ski from the “Übergangsjoch” at 2,500 metres above sea level non-stop all the way down into the valley to Zell/Rohrberg at an altitude of 580m, covering a mind-boggling distance of 8.4km and an elevation drop of no fewer than 1,920m. Fans of the “Sportabfahrt” downhill run will likewise enjoy the extended distance all the way down to the valley.

Grandvalira, Andorra sells record number of ski passes!

Grandvalira sold a total of 1,663,876 ski passes over the 129 days of the 2014-15 season. This figure represents a 3% increase over the previous year. The number of skiers rose for the third successive year at the ski resort. Likewise, the growth in consumer spending on services other than winter sports also continued, thus confirming the Domain of Snow as one of the top winter leisure destinations in southern Europe.

Grandvalira, Andorra hosts European Cup finals.

The Alpine Skiing European Cup Finals which will be held from 19 to 22 March at Grandvalira, were officially announced today. A total of 20 countries will be represented in these championships. More than 250 people, including skiers and staff, will travel to the Andorran ski resort next week where some of the best European skiers will come together.

BeerThe beer company will bring their Winter Break to Grandvalira, during which they will give both skiers and snowboarders alike the opportunity to be filmed by professional cameramen while they show off their snow skills, thus receiving a personalized video and an unforgettable souvenir. Vans will also be working with the event, bringing some of their best riders to Grandvalira to offer the brand's official merchandising at the El Tarter Snowpark. There will be a party on Saturday evening at L'Abarset (El Tarter) with DJs such as Marcos In Dub and Annie Frost.

New fun-park opens on the Hintertux glacier providing all-year-round freestyling!

From the beginning of December 2015 the new Winterpark Hintertux at Sommerberg will open which, in addition to the Betterpark Hintertux at Olperer, now offers freestyling fun at the Hintertux Glacier (located in the Zillertal valley of Tyrol) almost all-year-round.
