Sauze liftRESORT SUMMARY

  • Part of the huge 400km Vialattea skiing area, aka The Milky Way, consisting of Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere, Sansicario, Claviere and the French resort of Montgenevre.
  • One of the largest ski areas in the world and hosts to the 2006 Winter Olympics for which many new lifts and facilities were built.
  • High-altitude and sunny resort in the Susa Valley of the Italian Alps in Piedmont, north-west Italy.
  • Liveliest of the Vialattea villages with warm and friendly Italian hospitality and a great range of restaurants, bars and clubs.
  • Modern village centre and an attractive old town with narrow cobbled streets.
  • Popular with Brits and Italian weekenders, young professionals & party people.
  • Resort shuttle bus from the village to the Clotes and Sportinia lifts.

Slopes 4SKIING

  • Slopes for all levels of ability with uncrowded, extensive and well-groomed runs.
  • Ideal for intermediates with plenty of reds and lots of long cruising slopes.
  • Pretty tree-lined lower runs and higher open runs with magnificent views of the Alps.
  • Excellent ski schools with relaxed and friendly English-speaking instructors for all levels.
  • Nursery slopes next to the Clotes chairlift at village level (no ski pass required but steeper slope) and Sportinia (on the mountain next to the ski school).
  • All areas of the Milky Way covered by the Vialattea lift pass - (Montgenevre in France in 6 day pass only).

Off-pisteIN THE SNOW ...

  • Skip the slower Clotes chair and catch the resort bus up to the faster Sportinia lift to access the mountain.
  • The lower slopes near the village and Clotes can get busy so beginners should head to Sportinia for wide-open easy slopes to practice on.
  • Intermediates can enjoy the wide choice of open red and pretty tree-lined runs from Monte Triplex down to Jouvenceaux, or take the Colo chair over to Sansicario (to sample the long reds down to the village) and Sestriere.
  • Confident intermediates can venture further into Claviere by taking the chairlift link from Sansicario.
  • The advanced can tackle the challenging runs in the Moncrons area with fantastic cruising above the treeline and long descents through the trees or attempt the narrow Malafosse run.
  • Head over to Sestriere for the blacks of Mount Motta and Mount Sises, the Olympic Kandahar slalom and the Kandahar Barchetta runs, or the challenging reds of Sansicario.
  • Great off-piste in the Genevris area, through the larch and fir wooded areas, in the high powder bowls and the various off-piste routes from the top of Fratieve.

Park PARKS

The Double Black Snow Park in Sauze was built for the 2006 Winter Olympics and is especially popular with snowboarders.

Size: 80,000m²

Apres-skiAPRES-SKI

On the Mountain:

There are over 50 bars and restaurants on the mountain offering great food at reasonable prices, most set in traditional chalets with sun terraces offering beautiful views or in secluded tree-lined surroundings. Sportinia offers a sunny clearing in the woods with a number of restaurants to sample the Italian long lunch and is an ideal place for beginners to be able to meet with the more experienced in their group. The liveliest apres-ski happens in the modern resort centre of Sauze but you can warm up with a drink at Capanna Mulino at the bottom of the ski run before venturing further into the town.

In the Resort:

Sauze is the place to party in the Italian Alps and although it has shed it's former raucous image of 'Ibiza on the slopes' it still remains a fantastic party destination whilst offering a more appealing atmosphere to a wider clientele with a good choice of friendly wine bars and pubs.

apresThe party starts as soon as you come off the slopes with one bar after another as you walk through the resort including Village, Ghost, Paddy’s and Miravallino. Before dinner go for a traditional aperitivo in the Assietta or a glass of Prosecco in one of the wine bars such as Seggiovia, Lampione and Gran Trun. Most of the pubs and bars are open until late and offer live sports, live music, happy hours, skiing & boarding videos and pool tables. If you want to dance then head to the Schuss discopub below the Miravallino which opens till the early hours.

Sauze has over 30 restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets including English and Irish themed pubs, Chinese and Mexican places and lots of excellent rustic restaurants in the old town offering a variety of local dishes including pizzas, pastas and meats accompanied by excellent local wines.

The resort is small and spread out with the lively apres-ski and nightlife amongst the modern resort centre whilst more rustic establishments line the cobbled streets of the old town.

A full list of restaurant, bar and club recommendations will be provided with your itinerary.
