ITALY'S SKI REGIONS
Vialattea
The Vialattea, aka The Milky Way, is located in the Piedmont region of north-west Italy and at 400km is one of the largest ski areas in the world consisting of Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere, Sansicario, Claviere and the French resort of Montgenevre. The region was host to the 2006 Winter Olympics for which many new lifts and facilities were built.
Vialattea caters for all levels of skiers and the resorts of Sauze d'Oulx and Sestriere are particularly good for intermediates and the advanced with varied and extensive on and off-piste including wide open and tree lined runs, wooded and mogul areas, long cruising and steep challenging runs and high powder bowls. The ski schools are excellent with relaxed and friendly instructors providing tuition to all levels and there are easier beginner runs close to the ski schools in both resorts. The region has four snowparks in Sestriere, Sansicario, Montgenevre and the Double Black Snow Park in Sauze which was built especially for the 2006 Olympics.
